HELEN BRITTON

ASSEMBLAGE WITH CHRISTMAS TREE MINIATURE, 2021

The tree arrived a few days before Christmas, really very well protected in its open-topped dwelling, like in a concrete wall with shards of glass inserted, against trespassing, forbidden access – or to prevent escape? The sharp pointed spikes shine very nicely. The little tree with a small golden tip and tree decoration is dusted with shimmering powdered sugar. With a strip of felt, the walled-in little tree can be carefully lifted out of the box, which is lined with grey felt.

The small installation challenged the various interpretations. Not only because it was the second year that Christmas was celebrated under very strange circumstances. At the same time we enjoyed Helen’s documentation of the manufacturing steps. In this way, she gave us a little insight into her work and let us share in it.
