STEFFEN KAZ &
CATHARINA LORENZ

CONSTRUCTION KIT, 2021

How to survive D-day with only very little luggage? The answer is packaged in a paper box whose size is significantly smaller than 10 x 10 x 10 cm. It contains 56 carbon rods, some with aluminum and brass elements, 4 feet and one tent foil made of metalized polyester, the material of these crackling rescue blankets. An existentialist commentary on dystopian imaginations and contemporary catastrophes.

Catharina Lorenz & Steffen Kaz (Milan/Italy) are furniture, product and graphic designers with southern German origins. The studio’s designs – often award-winning and internationally recognized – show a design attitude of reduction or minimalism in relation to the use of space and resources. What is not reduced is the demand for practical functions and a high aesthetic appeal.

Dear Steffen, Dear Catharina, over a year ago we skyped twice a week about the situation in Milan. This became a kind of forecast for us here in Germany.
Yours Dominik
