SOPHIE ALEX
ASSEMBLAGE AND MINIATURE BOOK, 2021
“An interplay of a thousand parts made of wood, leather, glue and metal, allowing the wind to find its way and create a variety of soundscapes …“ Sophie Alex / November 17, 2021
An organ for Alt-Pankow – that was Sophie’s motto for the last two years: researching, planning, making contacts, supporting the fundraising, drawing designs for the organ prospectus, communicating with church management, preservationists, organ builders and many other partners – all this under pandemic conditions. She has captured the entire process between two book covers. Scaled down, she has packed this commemorative publication in her box. The regular benefit concerts and events around the newly built organ in the style of Carl August Buchholz – called “the Schinkel of the organ”, by the way – continue to be an integral part of her everyday life.
Sophie Alex (Berlin/Germany) graduated as a textile and surface designer at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee – with an expansive outdoor installation that included the movement of sunlight. She then worked at the graphic design studio cyan before founding her own office for print, web and corporate design. Her clients are primarily social institutions, non-profit initiatives, as well as artisans, artists and musicians.

Dear Sophie, what tones and sounds does a cardboard box make? Or what patterns does it decorate itself with? Undiscovered territory until now.
Yours Silke
